WEEK 4

Introduction to Photoshop: Adjustment Layers and Filter What is Adjustment Layers?
  • Non-destructive image editing tools (add color and tonal adjustments)
  • Can edit and discard your adjustments.
  • Restore your original image at any time.
Basic Understanding
When you add an adjustment layer, a new layer will appear over yourimage and a Properties panel will pop up. It will allow you to modify your adjustment layer.
  • Brightness / Contrast: Adjust the highlight and shadow.
  • Level: Adjusting the levels of the shadows, midtones, and highlights.
  • Curves: Adjust as many points as you want throughout the entire tonal range of your image.
  • Exposure: Adjust exposure levels with Exposure, Offset and Gamma.
  • Selective Color: Adjustment layer selectively modifies the amount of a primary color without modifying the other primary colors.
What is Filter?
There are filters to change colour, add blur or create completely new image effects.

Exercise:
In this exercise we need to add and edit filters and layering. My final design was the first one, then I tried different layer modes to see how they looked and then just chose the one that suited my design.

Based on the design, I edited the colors of the fish, buildings, rubber plants, textures, and water ripples to a more blue hue. Then, change the layer mode of the building to pin light and the water ripples to a darker color layer mode. The overall design uses cool colors, with water ripples helping to guide the viewer’s eye to the center. Finally, the rubber plants in the foreground will be darker and the fishtail will be lighter and less saturated because it is behind the building. This edit helps create a sense of depth and
layering.
