LECTURES
Week 01
In this first week, Mr. Kannan introduced us about what task
and projects we need to do in information design. Then, we formed groups of 6 or 7 people according to the same
color in the name list. I was in group pink and I am the leader
for group pink. Besides the class exercise group, we have
another group is for the final animated infographic group and it
only allow 2 people in a group. We have a group presentation
right after that and out topic was what is good and bad
infographic.
Week 02
Week 02, we consulted to Mr. Kannan for our exercise 01the
quantify and visualize data. And, we learned how to do the
"Bounce" text effect in AE.
Week 03
CNY Holidayyy. But most of us are doing the L.A.T.C.H poster
exercise,
Week 04
In week 04, Mr. Kannan taught us about the graphic animation in
class and we consulted to him about our storyboard for kinetic
typography (Project 02 exercise 3)
Week 05
We consulted about our project 01 poster and the final animation
storyboard to Mr. Kannan.

Flip 02 : "L.A.T.C.H Principles "
Flip 03 : "Miller's Laws"

Redeign Inforgraphic Poster
Poster Chosen
- Not too much information
- Clear instructions
Disadvantages
- Background colour too bright, cannot clearly see the words
- The poster too long
Redesigned Poster
- I change the background colour to more lighter and contrast with the words.
- The images are more understanable.
- The poster size more wider and shorter, this allows people to observe information without secondary operations.
Exercise 01 : Quantify and Visualize Data
In this exercise we need to choose a item and arrange
it in a layout with relevant indicators written out.
My chosen things were keyboard caps, so I organised them into some of
the cap categories.

| 1.3, Categories the keycaps |
After that, I put them in a family tree design layout with the indicators
written.
Final Outcome:

| 1.4, Final Outcome for Exercise 01 |
Exercise 2 is about L.A.T.C.H principle infographic. We are required to
organize a group of information into a visual poster that combined and
utilizes the L.A.T.C.H principles.
L.A.T.C.H stand for Location, Alphabet, Time, Category and
Hirarchy.
My chosen topic was the slime monsters in the Teyvat continent of Genshin
Impact (game).
Sketches:
|
| 1.5, Sketch for LATCH poster |
This is the sketch for my inforgraphic, I use only 4 type of elements
slime to represent which are cyro, electro, hydro and pyro. Each type
of slime have their own biomap, cryo slime spawn in the snow cave,
electro slime spawn in the thunder field, hydro slime spwan in the
lake and the pyro slime spawn near volcano area.
Details & Information:
Then I use Photoshop to put in the information of the slimes and details. I
use different colour to categories each type of slimes.
Final Outcome:
|
| 1.7, Final Outcome for LATCH poster |
Location: I group the slime by
the biome.
Alphabet: The Type of element in information boxes are arranged following
alphabetical order.
Time: The Time Principle
is apply below the slime's name, along with the note "Basic - Evolution" to
show the changes of the slime undergoes from its initial form to its
advanced form.
Category: I organized the slime
with different type of elements.
Hirarchy: The rates of the
health and attack power under the slime shows the power progression and
evolution hierarchy.
REFLECTION
Experience
Over the past few weeks in the Information Design course, I've learned a
lot from both group and individual exercises. Being the leader of group
pink made me me feel more responsible because I needed to organize
discussions and make sure everyone involved in the task. These exercises
also helped me understand how to arrange information in a clearer
way.
Observation
During the process, I realized that good information design is not only
about making things look nice, but also about making sure the audience can
understand the content easily. For example, when I redesigned the
poster, I noticed how colour contrast and layout size can affect
readability. In the L.A.T.C.H exercise, organizing information using a clear
systems like location, alphabet, time, category, and hierarchy can makes the
poster more structured and logical. I also learned that too much information
or overly bright colours can confuse viewers.
Findings
From these exercises, I've learned that hirarchy plays a big
role in guiding viewers’ eyes, especially when showing progression or
comparison. Besides that, working in a group improved my communication
skills and helped me see different ideas and perspectives. Overall,
this subject helped me understand that infographic design is about
balancing creativity and clarity,
