EXERCISE 1

Website Analysis Report 1 : Summoner Studio
Link: SUMMONER

Purpose and Goals

Figure 1.0, Screenshot of purpose

Summoner Studio is a creative development centre focused on interactive design, game development, and immersive experiences. The main goal of the website is to showcase the studio's projects in order to attract collaborators or clients. However, while the website's aesthetics and immersiveness are appealing, its purpose is not easy for viewers to understand.

Visual Design and Layout

Figure 1.1, Screenshot of Visual Design and Layout

- Summoner Studio's website used a dark colour scheme, bold futuristic typography, particle effects and a smooth sliding design, which fits in well with the creative and gaming centre brand. But the heavy visuals and abstract designs can sometimes affect clarity. Low contrast of the text and background or overdo of effects might reduce the amount of information the viewer receives.

Functionality and Usability

Figure 1.2, Screenshot of the menu bar and "Pack" site

- The navigation is simple and hidden in the menu. Although the interface is simple, it cannot be found without clicking on the menu, which may make it difficult for new users to find it. The same problem exists on the Pack's site, which does not prompt users to click the "Packs" to get more information.

Content Quality
Figure 1.3, Screenshot of Content

- The website has limited text content, prioritising visuals and interactivity over information density. The "Project" and "About" sections briefly describe past work. Also, the layout and size of the text are too uniform and do not contain visual hierarchy, which prevents the viewer from receiving important information at first glance.

Performance and Compatibility

- Summoner Studio performs well on modern desktop browsers and loads quickly considering the visual intensity. However, the experience may be degraded on other devices or mobile platforms, as the site relies on animations and videos, which may not load properly on slower connections.

Website Analysis Report 2 : RayRayLab

Purpose and Goals

Figure 1.4, Screenshot of Purpose

RayRay Lab is a creativity agency specialising in interactive design, web development, branding and planning. The purpose of the RayRayLab is to craft uniquely tailored web interactions by understanding each brand's values and philosophy. However, there is no "About me" tittle on the homepage is not obvious, which may cause visitors miss and spend more time searching for information about the creator and the site's purpose.

Visual Design and Layout

Figure 1.5, Screenshot of Layout

- RayRay Lab's visual design uses a classic black and white colour scheme, making it stand out at first glance. However, the lack of size and boldness variation in the same paragraph makes the text lack a sense of priority, which can be a bit dull and difficult to read, especially in long texts or on small screens.

Functionality and Usability

- RayRay Lab offers a creative but somewhat unconventional user experience. The nagivation feels hidden and sometimes  disorienting, especially for new user. For the page of "About me", is not inside the nagination,it might cause the user spend more time on finding. The website does not have an abvious prompt to tell users how to return to the previous page when entering the next page.

Content Quality

Figure 1.6, Screenshot of Content

- The content is creative and clearly tailored to a designer's portfolio. Each project is showcased with accompanied by an image and a brief text description. However, many of the descriptions were too brief and lacked context, visitors might have preferred to learn more about the design process, goals and outcome.

Performance and Compatibility

- RayRay Lab's perfomance is generally strong, for a site with many animations and interaction, it loads quickly. It is smooth and responsive on both desktop and mobile devices, but perfomance may drop slightly on older or lower-perfomance devices. The site is optimized for modern browsers, but may not work consistently on all screen sizes.

Website Analysis Report 3 : Sun Metalon's Website

Purpose and Goals

Figure 1.7, Screenshot of Purpose and Goals

- Sun Metalon's website clearly states its purpose and goals is to revolutionize metal recycling with innovative technology. However, there is no storytelling or emotional connection with users to make users feel the urgency or importnce of the mission.

Visual Design and Layout

Figure 1.8, Screenshot of Visual Design

- The website has a clean and modern look, in keeping with a technology company. However, while the look is sohisticated, it can sometimes seem too minimalist, leading to a dull user expereince. The overall simplistic design reduces the emotional engagement and makes it difficult for users to relate to the site.

Functionality and Usability

Figure 1.9, Screenshot of Home button

- The navigation is standard and works well, but it’s too shallow and restrictive. All content feels compressed into simple headers with no secondary navigation. This also limits the user experience of navigating the site, forcing users to adopt a linear reading flow. The home button is hidden in the logo, and if the user is on the home page but wants to return to where they started, they need to scroll up, and the home button doesn’t help users get directly back to where they started.

Content Quality

Figure 1.10, Screenshot of Content

- The content is clear and concise, but it reads more like a general introduction. In addition, there is no user-centric storytelling, and no user testimonials, case studies, or success stories. New users may be confused because this is a website about technology and environmental protection, which may be a bit esoteric.

Performance and Compatibility

Figure 1.11, Screenshot of Photo Transitions

- The site performs well on both desktop and mobile devices. However, despite the strong technical foundation, the user experience is not as good. The animations, micro-interactions, and transitions in the site are noticeably lacking. For example, page transitions are abrupt, parts of the content switch instantly, and there is a lack of smooth animation. The lack of motion design results in a mediocre browsing experience, which is inconsistent with the company's image as an innovative, future-oriented technology brand. Users may find the site uninspiring and difficult to remember, especially compared to competitors that use interactive design.

Website Analysis Report 4 : Museum of Digital Influence

Purpose and Goals

Figure 1.12, Screenshot of Purpose

- The purpose of this website is to be an educational, immersive, and shareable experience that helps users understand the history and significance of digital influence. However, the purpose is not immediately apparent, and users need to spend time  fully reading to understand. The delay may put off impatient visitors.

Visual Design and Layout

Figure 1.13, Screenshot of Visual Design

- The site's visual style is minimal yet vibrant, using black and white contrast, subtle animations, and occasional pops of colour to draw viewers in. Some sections appear visually "heavy" with dense blocks of text lacking sufficient visuals or headings to break them up. Besides, when sliding the page, the timeline below will also rotate to the corresponding part, but the same colour makes it difficult to distinguish which title it is.

Functionality and Usability

Figure 1.14, Screenshot of Navigation bar and Home button

- The website presents a smooth and responsive experience, with interactions and animations. But the Home button is hidden in the title of the website without labelling, which may not be intuitive for some users. The navigation below in the pages is not obvious and easy for users to miss. There is no "About me" in the navigation, which makes it harder for users to quickly understand who is behind the project.

Content Quality

- The website content is informative, though-provoking, and presented in a structured and thematic manner. Some sections are too text-heavy, which may cause cognitive fatigue for the reader. The website lacks multimedia content, such as videos or infographics, which would make the information easier to understand.

Performance and Compatibility

Figure 1.15, Screenshot of Loading Page

- The site takes a little while to load but remains fluid and responsive. When returning to the home page, the repeating initial preloading screen may be irritating to some users, especially those on slower connections, as it delays access to content slightly.

Website Analysis Report 5 :  Elimar Group Research in Art Authentication

Purpose and Goals

Figure 1.16, Screenshot of Homepage
- The Elimar Group's website appears to focus on art authentication that has been lost to history research, conducted by a team of art historians. However, its purpose is not immeadiately clear.

Visual Design and Layout

Figure 1.17, Screenshot of Layout

- The website uses a minimalistic design with a white background and black text to show the contrast. The typography is clean and readable, but some sections need better hierarchy. The headers and body text don't contrast strongly enough, making it harder to read.

Functionality and Usability

Figure 1.18, Screenshot of Menu Bar

- The site's navigation is simple, but different from others. The menu is neat on the left, but imformation requires mutiple clicks to find or is not directly accessible without scrolling. The forms and contact section are clear and consise, but lack interactive elements.

Content Quality

- The content is accurate and professional, but the long paragraphs and few subheadings make the page appear dense. However, it is a bit chaos and no memorable points, when the methods and expertise were place in a same pages without devided into sections. In addition, there are only few narratives aout the organization's history, success stories, or case studies.

Performance and Compatibility

Figure 1.19, Screenshot of Screen in Mobile Phone

- The site loads quickly, however the mobile formatting leaves something to be desired, for example some of the margins appear too tight on smaller screens, making for a cramped reading experience. The site does not have many animations, which makes for a good speed, but that also means the site lack some motion that would make it feel more dynamic.
