TUTORIAL / PRACTICAL

Idea Development (Biography):  My name is Leong Hui Xuan, I am a Sagittarius and was born in Malaysia. I am a introvert who prefer to do things I love and listen to music. In this first semester of my first year Degree, I can say this year has been much more interesting than my foundation course as more modules are related to digital which I love. I like drawing in front of the window while listening to music, which makes me feel relaxed. I have recently tried archery and I fell in love with it, I hope to learn it formally in the future. The reason why I can persist in something must be because it makes me feel relaxed and enjoyable. When I start to enjoy it, it is the reason why I cannot give up. Since I like drawing and listen to music, I want to combine photography and drawing together to create an artwork that is similar to the theme of the CD music.

Idea Development (Statement): I want to create an artwork with a spinning CD in the middle and put some cute drawing animations on the CD to make it more interesting. Besides, I want to show the passions of me, and hobbies that I mentioned in my biography. The idea is to have a photograph of me playing the piano as the focal point in the CD, and blurred sky background. The emotions that i want to express is to find a passion and try to enjoy it, then you will be happy with life because of it. Enjoy your life with your passions and create a melody of life.

I had 2 idea sketches for this project. The first one was about an archery hobby, with me holding a bow and arrow. The reason I abandoned this idea was that I found it difficult to combine it with my bow and arrow drawings, so I started brainstorming again about what else I could do besides archery.

The second creative sketch was more focused on music. Since I love listening to music, I decided to make an animation similar to a CD playing in a music app. Also, it would be a bit boring if it was just a CD playing, so I decided to draw an element on the CD through multiple in-between frames.

I had 3 ideas for elements, one was piano keys, the third was piano notes and melody, which was related to my love of listening to music, and the second was a jumping bunny. I decided to choose the second one (the jumping bunny) as the element on the CD because it makes the whole look more dynamic and interesting.
