ANIMATED INSTRUCTABLE POSTER
After completing the final poster, we were required to form a
group of two to animate the design. My groupmate and I decided
to animate the tiramisu recipe.

Guide Book
Here is our Guide Book that include all the research and
drawing.

First, we start with storyboard and a timing map to better understand how the animation would be structured and executed.

Process in Adobe Effect
Gallery Scene
After import and arrange the layers in AE, I started to do the transition
for the gallery scene, and the movement of Mona Lisa.

To achieve smooth transitions between different phase, I used zoom-in and
zoom-out effects. Each phase has a background of a frame without a photo,
which appears when the recipe steps are zoomed in.

For the whipping cream section, I used a mask effect to create the animation, allowing the cream to appear as if it is following the movement of the spatula, same as the coffee and ladyfingers section.

When sprinkling cocoa powder, to make it look like the powder was
sprinkled on top, I adjusted the opacity of the powder follow the sieve so
that the cocoa powder would gradually appear at each point the sieve
moved, as if it were sprinkled evenly on top.
Ending Part
To animate the Mona Lisa’s smile and head tilt, I separated the head,
eyes, and mouth into different layers, making the animation easier to
control. I then used rotation and position adjustments to ensure the eyes
and mouth moved naturally with the head.

In the final part, I added the credits with the text “Bon Appétit” and
animated it to fade in and remain on screen until the end.
Sound effects and Captions
After both of us finish our part, I compiled all the video together and
put the sounf effects and the captions.
I use freesound website to find the soundeffect.

For sound effects, I will apply and adjust the audio to ensure that the
sound effects can be heard.
REFLECTION
Experience
This animated project is a continuation of the instructable
poster, where we transformed into an animation. After completing
the final poster, we were required to work in pairs, and my
groupmate and I chose to animate the tiramisu recipe. We divided
the tasks equally, where I focused on the storyboard, asset drawing, and later scenes, while my partner handled the timing map, opening, and early phases. We began by developing a storyboard and timing map to better
understand the flow of the animation. After confirming the
concept and background music, I started drawing assets and
exploring the colour palette using Procreate, before moving into
Adobe After Effects to animate. Throughout the process, I worked
on transitions, character animation, and scene development, and
later compiled all parts together with sound effects and
captions.
Observation
During the production process, I noticed that planning played a
crucial role in ensuring a smooth workflow. The storyboard and
timing map helped us clearly visualize how each phase would
transition and how the animation would progress. I also noticed
that different animation techniques, such as zoom-in and zoom-out
transitions, masking, and opacity adjustments, significantly
improved the clarity and visual appeal of the content. For
example, the mask effect allowed the whipping cream to follow the
spatula naturally, while opacity keyframes created a realistic
cocoa powder sprinkling effect. Additionally, separating elements
like the Mona Lisa’s head, eyes, and mouth into different layers
made the animation more flexible and easier to control.
Findings
From this project, I learned that animation requires both
technical skills and careful planning to achieve an effective
result. The use of software such as Procreate and Adobe After
Effects allowed me to explore different techniques and improve my
understanding of motion design. I also realized the importance of
teamwork and communication, as dividing tasks and combining our
work required coordination and consistency. Furthermore, small
details such as transitions, timing, and sound effects can greatly
impact the quality of the final outcome. Overall, this project
helped me develop stronger skills in animation, problem-solving,
and visual storytelling, while also showing how motion can enhance
the communication of information compared to a static
poster.
