PROJECT 02 EXERCISE 03

Kinetic Typography

In this exercise we need to form in a group of 6-7 people, then we need to choose a song and based on the songs to create the lyrics animation.

My group chosen music was "Last Surprise" ny Lynn.

F1.0, Lyrics Breakdown

Next, we breakdown each section of the lyrics. We chose to make the first chorus, which is also the shortest chorus, easy, while the second and third choruses will be more complex because we have three chorus parts, each done by a different person.

F1.1, Guideline

The only guidelines we have are regarding typefaces and colors. We took a long time to select and try out the red color (#D92323) which won't hurt the viewers too much but also remain a vibrant red color.
F1.2, Storyboard

Following that, we created our own storyboard and made all the necessary adjustments to make it looks more cohesive.

My Part Storyboard

F1.3, My part storyboard (Chorus 03)

At first, I want to do a ripple effect on the background, but the due to the limited time and the complicated work, I change my plan on it.

We began working on the animation portion after the storyboard was finished, and it took me a very long time to do my part. However, I didn't follow my storyboard's drawings for some of the footage.

PROJECT 02 EXERCISE 04

Animation Chart

We  needed to created an animated chart based on the data given, I was required to animate a bar chart.

Data Given:
F2.0, Data Given

First, I choose a colour palette for my bar chart.

F2.1, Colour palette

Then, I animated the bar chart throught Adobe Effects.

F2.2,  Progress for bar chart

PROJECT 02 EXERCISE 05

Vector/ Character Animation

This task requires us to animate a vector illustration that has been provided.

F3.0, Illustration Given

After importing the file to Adobe Illustrator, I separate the layers I want to make changes and apply animation to.

F3.1, Separate layers

Then, I started animate in Adobe Effects.

F3.2, Progress animation

REFLECTION

Experience:

Throughout Project 02, I gained valuable experience in creating different types of animations using Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator. The kinetic typography exercise was especially challenging because it required teamwork and careful timing with the song lyrics. I took about 4 days to done my part, as a leader I also need to checked my members progress and after finish the project I got sick, so is quite a hard time for me, . My group selected the song Last Surprise, and we had to divide the chorus into different parts so each member could animate their section. While working on my part, I realized that translating music into motion graphics requires both creativity and technical control. It took me a long time to complete the animation because I needed to adjust the timing, positioning, and transitions to make the lyrics match the rhythm of the music. Through the bar chart and vector animation exercises, I also improved my understanding of keyframes and layer management.

Observation:

In this project, I noticed that planning plays a crucial role in animation design. Storyboards guide the animation process, but sometimes the final result may still need adjustments during production because certain ideas are difficult to implement or require more time than expected. For example, I initially planned to create a ripple background effect in my dynamic text animation, but later decided to simplify it due to time constraints. I also noticed that consistency in color, typography, and motion is essential when multiple people collaborate on the same project. By adhering to the same color and typography guidelines, even though each member was responsible for different parts of the animation, our team was ultimately able to make the video look more harmonious and unified.

Findings:

Through this project, I found that information design animation requires a balance between clarity and creativity. In the animated bar chart exercise, the goal was not only to make the chart visually appealing but also to ensure the data was clear and easy to understand. This made me realize that animation should enhance information, not distract from it. I also learned that when creating vector graphics animations, breaking down complex illustrations into different layers is crucial, as this allows different parts to move independently. Overall, this project improved my technical skills and enhanced my ability to think about how to use dynamic effects to convey information more effectively.
